CHAIN GRATE BOILER

A chain grate boiler uses a travelling chain grate to carry fuel into the furnace. Combustion air is supplied from under the grate, burning the fuel on the grate surface. The heat released by combustion is absorbed by the water in the tube banks and converted into steam. After combustion, ash and slag are carried by the grate to the end of the furnace and discharged by a scraper conveyor or screw conveyor.

1. Design of the Enthalpy Chain Grate Boiler:

  • Fuel feeding system: Consists of a fuel receiving hopper and a belt conveyor (or bucket conveyor, bucket elevator) that delivers fuel to the boiler. The fuel feeding system is interlocked, metered and automatically controlled to supply fuel to the boiler. It can also be equipped with a weighing scale to measure the boiler's fuel consumption.
  • Furnace and boiler body: Designed for complete fuel combustion and optimum heat absorption for steam generation. Includes the chain grate stoker, furnace, primary air fan, secondary air fan, radiant water-wall tubes and convection boiler tube banks.
  • Economizer and air preheater: Recover heat from the flue gas to increase boiler efficiency.
  • Dust collection system: Multi-cyclone dust collectors, bag filters, electrostatic precipitators (ESP) or wet scrubbers can be used, or two of these systems can be combined into a two-stage dust collection system. These dust collectors ensure that the boiler flue gas meets even the most stringent environmental emission standards.
  • Induced draft fan and stack: The induced draft (ID) fan draws the flue gas from the furnace to the stack and discharges it into the atmosphere.

2. Technical Specifications

  • Calculated, designed, manufactured and operated in accordance with Vietnamese (TCVN) and German standards
  • Steam capacity: from 3 t/h to 40 t/h
  • Design pressure: from 10 bar to 150 bar
  • Saturated or superheated steam
  • Fuel: Vietnamese coal fines, Indonesian coal, biomass, etc.
  • Boiler efficiency: 85%

3. Operating Principle and Advantages

  • A chain grate boiler uses a travelling chain grate to carry fuel into the furnace.
  • Chain grate boilers can burn large-sized fuel with non-uniform particle size, and can fire several fuels simultaneously (co-firing) or each fuel separately.
  •  Chain grate boilers are relatively simple to operate, with mechanized fuel feeding and ash removal.
